Strange ships, strange discoveries

Well, let's start with this little "discovery" I made a while ago. I was a big fan of Star Wars: Droids series of cartoons - had them all taped from TV and watched them over and over again. Then, of course, I forgot all about it, and during the years of early adolescence had little contact with them, as with anything Starwarsy.

Now, During adolescence, I found great enjoyment in "serious" sci-fi comics, and one of the authors that I was crazy about was Jean Giraud, better known as Moebius.

To get to the point: there is a single panel in The Incal comic book, volume V. The Berg Armada decided to attack the Empire. And it looks like this:

Now, if anyone out there feels this to be somewhat familiar, and feels it has something to do with Droids cartoons, than I'm not the only geek in the world!

This is the fleet of Tammuz-an from the episode The Pirates of Tarnoonga.

Now I knew that there was a lot of direct influence between Moebius style and the style of Droids cartoons, and this is one of the reasons I still enjoy them - despite childish plots and some crazy dialogues. However, this "discovery" was strange because I never heard anyone write about it! There is a well know story about this panel from 1975 Moebius comic The Long Tomorrow:

which seems to be the basis of the Probot design from The Empire Strikes Back.

But judge for yourself!

There are thousands of Star Wars blogs and fan pages out there, and I felt a certain need to join that incomprehensible amount of geekness!

I first watched Star Wars when I was 4, on home-video, with my parents. That was 25 years ago. Now, I'm thinking of investing in Blu-ray edition, just because of the Deleted scenes section. And to somehow find the Unaltered DVD edition. Yeah, I'm one of the old-school fans. But I'm proud of it.
